Black Bear to Auction Celebrity Autographs
After a month of shooting in the Milford area, the independent film company, InDigEnt Films (Independent Digital Entertainment), has wrapped their new movie, "Pizza", which is scheduled to open at the Sundance Film Festival next year. Many area locations were used, including the Pizza House at the K-Mart Plaza in Matamoras and private homes in Milford and Port Jervis. One of the primary locations was 206 W. High Street, Milford, owned by Bill and MaryAnn Gilpin, which served for the past week as the Midwestern house of star Julie Hagerty (best known for her roles in the spoof "Airplane" and Woody Allens "Midsummers Night Sex Comedy"). Hagerty, still as sweet and adorable-voiced as ever, is playing the mother of newcomer teenaged star, Kylie Sparks.
While at the W. High Street shoot, the cast and crew of Pizza, including Hagerty, Sparks and hearthrob Ethan Embry ("Sweet Home Alabama", "That Thing You Do"), director/writer Mark Christopher and two dozen other of the filmmakers, autographed a poster for the Black Bear Film Festival, and the highly collectible, framed prize will be won by the highest bidder in the silent auction at this years festival, October 17-19. An autographed picture of Ethan Emby, taken by Black Bear during the Pizza House shoot, will also be included in the auction.
When asked by Black Bear Film Festival if she would come back and attend the 2004 festival if "Pizza" is part of the film lineup, Julie Hagerty said, "Id love to."
The next volunteer meeting for Black Bear Film Festival is Saturday, September 13, 10.30 am, at the Milford Borough Hall, 211 W. Catharine Street, Milford. Everyone is welcome and appreciated, so plan to get involved! If you have interesting or creative items worth over $50 for the festivals silent auction, bring them to the meeting or call the festival office at 570-409-0909.
Next week, the festival plans to unveil the lineup of this years films, and tickets will go on sale shortly thereafter - watch the website, www.BlackBearFilm.com, for updates. The festival now has a new office at the Upper Mill, opposite the WaterWheel complex on Mill Sreet, Milford, where tickets and merchandise will be available for purchase. The office was generously donated by landlords Bob Hartmann and Duke Schneider.
The Black Bear Film Festival, now in its fourth successful year, celebrates independent filmmaking, especially those that investigate the interaction of the human spirit within the natural world. Over 2,000 people are expected to come to Milford, Pennsylvania for the weekend event of October 17-19. ###
