Film Festival Announces 2005 Dates

The Sixth Annual Black Bear Film Festival comes out of hibernation to announce this year's Festival dates: October 13-16, 2005 (Thursday-Sunday). Black Bear is renowned for extraordinary selections of full-length independent films, and many short films and lectures are free to the public in the Film Salon.

The first Black Bear Volunteer Meeting is Saturday, April 30, at 10.30am, at a new location: The Ingeborg A. Biondo Building, Community Room, 221 Broad Street, Milford, PA. (The Biondo Building is near the intersection of Harford and Broad, in the center of town, near the library.) Volunteering is the best way to meet film industry insiders and go behind-the-scenes of this wonderful event. An army of nearly 100 volunteers are needed to put together the Film Festival. Particularly wanted for this year's Festival are volunteers for the following committees: Publicity and Press, Email List Management, Database Designer, Event Planning & Hospitality, Film Salon helpers, Fundraising, Grant Writing, etc.

Whatever your skill level, join the Film Festival Volunteer Corps. If you can't attend the meeting but would like to participate in some way, email info@blackbearfilm.com or fill out the Volunteer Form online at http://www.blackbearfilm.com.

The famous life-sized Painted Bear Sculptures are again gracing the scene this year - there will be ten bears - and if you would like to be a Bear Artist to decorate the sculptures, sketch deadline is May 15th. Call 570.409.0909 or email info@blackbearfilm.com for details. This year's Bear Project Coordinator is artist Carol Baker, who in the past two Festivals designed the delightful Picasso Bear and Totem Bear. Bears will be unveiled on Saturday, August 6, 2005, and will be displayed around Milford until the Festival in October. Past bears can be viewed online on the Festival's website.

Nancy Pitcher, Executive Director of the Festival, is delighted to announce that the first of this year's grants has already been approved, from Pike County Community Planning & Human Development in conjunction with the Pike County Commissioners. Many thanks to them for their deeply needed funding.

Several wonderful fundraising parties and film screenings in the works, and more details will be coming soon. Sponsors are signing up fast, so please call 570.409.0909 to add your name to the Sponsor List! Sponsorship opportunities start at $1,000. Donations of any amount are always gratefully received, and may be made securely online on the Festival's website at http://www.blackbearfilm.com/sponsors/sponsors.html. Online you may also add an email address to the Festival's breaking news email list to receive all the latest Black Bear details, or email your name to info@blackbearfilm.com.
