FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FILM FESTIVAL HOSTS CHANCE TO MEET FILMMAKERS
Most Americans are film-goers, catching a movie more or less regularly. Few people, however, get the opportunity to meet the industry insiders who actually make the films. The Black Bear Film Festival is creating such chances in Milford, Pennsylvania, within the intimate setting of its "Film Salon". Screenwriters, producers, documentary filmmakers, set designers, authors, film historians, actors, costume designers, film preservationists, cinematographers and Academy Award nominees are scheduled to participate in the candid discussions and multi-media presentations all free to the public.
Due to the huge success and popularity of last years Salon , the 2002 Film Salon will be hosted at two venues to accommodate the expanded 3-day schedule:
- The Film Salon @ Milford Borough Hall on W. Catherine Street (just off Broad St.) will begin at 10 am Saturday, October 12 of Columbus Day weekend and run through 3:30 p.m. Monday, October 14th.
- The Salon @ The Columns (Pike County Historical Society,The Foundation Room) on 608 Broad Street will run on Saturday, October 12, from 11 am to 9 p.m
The public is welcome, free of charge; seating is first come, first served, come and go as you like.
The moderated events at the Milford Borough Hall venue include Q&A with creators of such films as "The Shipping News", a slide tour of the Museum of Modern Arts Film Preservation Center, discussions about important steps for a screenwriter, revelations on 100 great film performances, insights into the selling of beauty and fashion on the silver screen, crews views of behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking, script-development tips from the consultant who advised filmmaker Ed Burns, world premieres of independent videos, and much more. A complete schedule for the Film Salon @ the Milford Borough Hall is published below.
With such strong content, its easy to see why Borough Hall Salon Coordinator and Festival Board Member William Schill touts it as "Industrial + instructional + experimental + controversial = Salon". Bill Schill was helped to put together this years events by new festival volunteer and Salon Assistant Coordinator, actor George Kaperonis.
"The Salon @ the Columns will host the Jos-l-thon: A Tribute to Milfords own: Allyn Joslyn", announces Fred Buchholz, the coordinator of the historic films event and Black Bear Film Festival Board Member. To be shown are films from the thirties and forties of veteran character actor Allyn Joslyn ("My Sister Eileen", "I Wake Up Screaming", etc), who was born in Milford in 1901, with discussion by film historian Bill Malin and Joslyns daughter, Linda Joslyn Bishop. Watch for more details on the Film Salon @ the Columns and a great Allyn Joslyn biography coming up soon.
The Film Salon is in addition to the Film Festivals 5-day schedule of feature films and shorts screened from Thursday, October 10 through Monday, October 14th. Tickets for the feature films and opening gala are available from the Black Bear Film Festival office at The Old Lumberyard, 115 Seventh Street, Milford, PA, or by calling 570.409.0909 (credit card sales accepted). The entire schedule of events can be viewed online at the festivals website at www.blackbearfilm.com.
